Job Summary

The Payroll Tax Manager is responsible for preparation review and filing of Federal State and Local taxes. The position is responsible for ensuring proper functioning of the department through direct oversight and development implementation and monitoring of appropriate policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting plus minimum 5 years of payroll tax experience preferably in the real estate/hospitality field.
  • Experience with researching and filing tax notices received from the IRS
  • Knowledge of various types of garnishments 
  • Experience with preparing and defending challenges to payroll tax audits.
  • Experience with multi-state tax processing and filings.
  • Experience working the Ultimate Software a plus.
  • Strong leadership coordination and coaching skills.
  • Knowledge of local state and federal laws rules and regulations relating to garnishments 
  • Requires general understanding of accounting principles.
  • Experience applying business process improvement cost reduction and efficiency programs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adhere to the policies outlined in the Global Employee Handbook.
  • Excellent verbal and writing communication skills
  • Ability to review garnishment set-up and provide insight for corrections to ensure the deductions are calculated properly
  • Manage staff to ensure accurate / quality control efficient and timely preparation and submittal of payroll tax filings; mitigate instances of penalties and punitive assessments due to mistakes or late filings.
  • Establish and monitor adherence to financial controls including segregation of duties.
  • Monitor payroll Tax activity and resolve issues.
  • Maintain relationships and advise on communication between accounting staff and payroll tax 
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures and systems of internal controls 
  • Responsible for implementation and adherence to Global document management and retention policies.
  • Perform bi-annual review of payroll tax preparation systems to ensure appropriateness of end-user permissions and roles.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops or classes; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks participating in professional organizations.
  • Preparation of state local and special tax returns and processing of payments and filing.
  • Continual analysis on new local tax laws to minimize tax liabilities while assuring compliance.
  • Oversee staff development ensuring training checklists are fully utilized and updated as needed.
